After more than 10 years of the brutal war being waged by the murderous Assad regime against the Syrian people, the issue of Syrian children represents one of the most painful and dangerous issues for our country’s present and future in the medium and long terms.
Multiple human rights reports have addressed the reality of children in Syria and the serious violations they are subjected to. Tens of thousands of children have been killed and detained, let alone killings under torture, child recruitment, and deprivation of education.
It is imperative that the international community assume its responsibilities with regard to this issue, and address this ongoing catastrophe which has been further worsened by the Covid-19 pandemic.
Those responsible for these crimes and violations that claimed the lives of tens of thousands of children must be held accountable. Serious action must be taken to stop these crimes and violations, for which no appropriate effort is being made to stop them.
Greater support needs to be provide to official and unofficial Syrian institutions that care for children, especially in the areas of psychological, family, health care, and education.
The issue of Syrian children, in addition to other critical issues, chief among them are the issues of detainees, the IDPs and refugees, should be addressed as a top priority. Action must be taken to restore international interest in bringing about a political transition in line with UN resolutions on Syria as the only solution to deal with the sources of chaos and devastation imposed by the regime on the Syrian people.
