The Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC) condemns the Russian invasion of Ukraine and calls on the world to decisively confront Putin in order to avoid an international catastrophe that may expand to affect many countries.
The lives of millions of people are not valueless or mere figures that can be used as bargaining chips by Putin who is embarking on criminal adventures that will create rivers of the blood of the Russian people before any other people.
The Syrian people do not want to witness more Russian criminality or more international inaction in any new part of the world in view of the suffering that they have been enduring at the hands of Russia. Therefore, we call on the international community, especially the European Union and the United States, to intervene immediately to stand up to Putin and confront his ambitions that will not stop at the borders of Ukraine.
Showing inaction towards Russia’s aggression and thuggery; its invasion of independent, sovereign states; and biting parts of these states will encourage Putin to do the same in other parts of the world. This inaction will also trigger the greed of states for the lands of their weaker neighbors, which will undermine international security and stability.
The Syrian people are well aware of the tragedies and woes that wars bring, and of the bitterness of international betrayal. Therefore, the Syrian people expresses their support for the friendly Ukrainian people and their resistance to the Russian aggression as they commends the courage that the Ukrainian people are showing in the defense of the unity and sovereignty of their country.
The SOC warns of the dangers of leaving the Ukrainian people in the crosshairs of Russian fire. Failure to help Ukraine may lead to a new world war whose consequences, woes and victims will be difficult to avoid. The thuggery of the arrogant dictator of Russia and his crimes against humanity will have no limits if the world fails to unify against his actions.
