Press Statement
Syrian Coalition
Istanbul, Turkey
November 01, 2013
The Syrian Coalition is closely following the mission of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) in Syria. The Coalition hopes the organization will complete its duties and submit its reports honestly and accurately. The OPCW must work hard to ensure it leaves no loopholes that might allow the Assad regime to hide any of its chemical weapon stockpiles and related equipment. It is quite plausible that the Assad regime would in the near future use these chemical weapons once again and blame other groups, as is often the case. The OPCW must ensure this does not happen.
The responsibilities undertaken by OPCW are of serious proportions and complacency in this case might lead to disastrous consequences. In this regard, the Syrian Coalition stresses the need for the OPCW team not to neglect any aspect of the task entrusted to it, regardless of any pressures.
The Syrian Coalition wishes, once again, to remind the international community that eliminating the regime’s chemical weapons at the expense of justice is not acceptable. Those who ordered and carried out chemical weapons attacks must be brought to trial, and justice must be served.
We ask for Mercy for our martyrs, health for our wounded, and freedom for our detainees.
Long live Syria and its people, free and with honor.
