President of the Syrian Coalition
November 16, 2014
We welcome President Obama’s comments reiterating the US policy not to engage in any kind of alliance or cooperation with Syria’s illegitimate ruler, Assad.
A comprehensive approach is desperately needed for the US led coalition campaign against the extremist group ISIS to deliver viable results. More support for and coordination with moderate forces on the ground is crucial for a successful strategy to bring peace to the region. It is not acceptable that moderate forces fighting for an inclusive, democratic, free Syria find themselves cornered, alienated, and under-equipped.
Controlling symptoms has never cured the disease. Only by the establishment of a transitional governing body (TGB) will it possible to roll back the advances of ISIS and ultimately destroy the group to defeat extremist ideology in Syria and the wider region.
