Press Statement
Hadi al-Bahra
President of the Syrian Coalition
November 27, 2014
We condemn, in the strongest possible terms, Assad’s latest airstrikes on Raqqa, killing dozens of civilians and injuring many others. The world’s shameful silence and the appalling indifference to Assad’s intensified airstrikes in Northern Syria is unacceptable.
We urge that civilians must be protected. A no-fly zone set up along the border with Turkey, also covering northern parts of Syria, will ensure Assad’s regime cannot use air power to bomb civilians at will.
Dealing with ISIS in isolation shows a lack of understanding of the situation on the ground and will not help solve the conflict in Syria. The world’s refusal to remove Assad’s despotic regime in Damascus will only worsen the region. The area will continue to deteriorate by leaving the door open for extremists to exploit the power vacuum, to thrive, and to spread their barbaric crimes across the entire region, and the world.
