The Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC) salutes the heroes in the Syrian Civil Defense (also known as the White Helmets) and highly appreciates their role, tremendous sacrifices and the efforts they are making at considerable risk to their lives. The SOC also pays a tribute to the fallen heroes who sacrificed their lives in line of duty over the past several years.
The latest fallen hero from the Civil Defense was Ahmed Al-Waki, one of the victims of the Russian terrorist attack that targeted the village of Tarhin in rural Aleppo on Friday. He was killed in the explosion of a fuel tank while he was trying to put out the fires caused by the missile attack on fuel refineries in the village.
The Syrian Civil Defense volunteers, clad in their white helmets, represent a model for successful Syrian organizations and a shining example of institutional work that is dedicated to the homeland, freedom, dignity, justice and humanity.
On behalf of the Syrian people, we renew our appreciation to this pioneering organization and to all its staff and volunteers for what they have provided to the Syrian people during their long struggle against tyranny, crime and occupation. We hope that we will be able to close this dark chapter and move to the stage of construction and development with the help of the White Helmets, the institutions of the people, and all Syrians in this historical, crucial mission.
