The murderous and criminal machine of the Assad regime and its Russian and Iranian allies have not stopped killing the Syrian people for ten years.
Several deadly attacks took place in rural Idlib and western rural Aleppo in less than 48 hours. The villages and towns of Sarjah, Ahsem, Daret Izza and Kafarnoran were subjected to barbaric shelling that targeted civilians and resulted in dozens of casualties, most of whom were women and children.
The Assad regime and its allies bombed the rescuers and paramedics while they were trying to rescue the victims from the rubble, killing and injuring a number of them. This attack constitute a crime against humanity that is added to the endless litany of crimes of genocide committed by the regime against civilians.
This systematic bombing aims to displace more people and increase the suffering of civilians in light of the difficult conditions they live in. It also aims to prevent refugees from visiting their relatives in the liberated areas during Eid.
While the bodies of children and women were being torn in the IDP camps, the criminal Assad was spreading his lies at the end of his farcical elections and taking a false oath on top of the bodies of the Syrian people.
The regime’s lies and crimes must be confronted with an international stance that rises to the level of responsibility and conforms to the UN commitment to saving peoples from the scourge of war, as well as defending international peace and security.
The Syrian Opposition Coalition calls on the UN to implement the responsibility to protect principle in order to save the population from genocide, war crimes, ethnic cleansing and crimes against humanity, including the implementation of Chapter VII of the UN Charter in accordance with General Assembly resolution 1/60 of September, 16 2005.
