The SOC has expressed disappointment with the United Nations and its organizations over their lack of response to the major disaster that has struck northwestern Syria following the earthquake. The quake has destroyed hundreds of buildings and caused hundreds of casualties, yet the UN has not provided any assistance.
The SOC states that access to northern Syria is not limited to one road, and refutes the justification given by the UNHCR spokesperson. The SOC highlights that even if the roads are blocked, helicopters can still reach the affected areas in the liberated region of Syria.
The earthquake has added to the existing struggles of the Syrian people, who have suffered from the brutality of the Assad regime and its allies since 2011, and have been subjected to chemical weapons, barrel bombs, and missiles. Now, they are left to face the devastating effects of the earthquake with limited rescue resources and a pressing need for humanitarian aid.
