The Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC) extends its congratulations to the Assyrians in Syria and around the globe on the occasion of the Babylonian-Assyrian New Year (Akitu) on April 1, marking the transition from the year 6773 to 6774.
The Akitu festival symbolizes hope for the advent of spring in our homeland – a season of renewal, salvation, and the realization of the Syrian people’s aspirations for freedom, justice, and democracy. It represents a time of unity and national collaboration among all segments of Syrian society, aiming to preserve the rich societal tapestry and promote coexistence amidst the cultural, religious, and social diversity of Syrians.
The SOC extends its felicitations to all Syrians on this auspicious occasion, expressing the fervent wish that next year’s celebration will find Syrians reunited in their homeland, emancipated from oppression and injustice, and thriving in an environment characterized by freedom, democracy, and equal citizenship for all.
