The Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC) extends warm congratulations to the Syriac Assyrians in Syria and worldwide on the occasion of the Akitu festival, the first day of the Assyrian-Babylonian year. The SOC emphasizes that the free people of Syria aspire to construct a nation that upholds the dignity and freedom of all citizens while respecting every segment of the Syrian populace.
One of the central objectives of the Syrian Revolution is to preserve the diversity of Syrian society, which the Assad regime attempted to tear apart by promoting division and sectarianism among the various communities. The regime also aimed to eradicate the nation’s diversity. All Syrians are equal partners in the country, and only through the efforts of all its sons and daughters can Syria prosper.
On this special occasion, we extend our felicitations to all Syrians, anticipating that we will celebrate it next year by achieving the Syrian people’s demands and rights for liberty, justice, and dignity in a free and prosperous homeland.
