The Syrian Opposition Coalition mourns Adnan Al-Jasem, the first medical worker to lose his life fighting the coronavirus pandemic in the liberated areas in northwestern Syria.
Born in the province of Deir Ezzor in 1962, Al-Jasem worked as an anesthesiologist at Al-Bab Hospital and Al-Farabi Hospital for Reproductive Health.
We highly commend the efforts medical workers in the liberated areas are making as we stand in awe of the immense sacrifices they are making and the selfless devotion they are showing at enormous personal risk. We pay tribute to Al-Jasem and to all medical workers who died battling the disease in Damascus, Aleppo and everywhere in Syria and also in the diaspora.
We urge our people in the liberated areas and the rest of Syria to abide by preventive measures and show utmost caution so as to prevent further spread of the disease. We have to contribute to the efforts to stem the pandemic by fully adhering to medical recommendations and preventive measures so that these become daily personal and social habits.
