Syrian Opposition Coalition – Syria

Department of Media and Communications

July 25, 2020

The Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC) mourns its member and member of the Syrian Turkoman Council Muhammad Nabhan who passed away of coronavirus infection earlier on Saturday.

Born in Homs province, Nabhan graduated from the Military Academy in 1983 and studied at the Faculty of Humanities and Psychology, majoring in legal studies. Nabhan defected from the Assad regime’s army in 2012 with the rank of colonel.

He began working alongside the Free Syrian Army in the town of Busra al-Harir in Dara’a province. He was also active in the political field as he was a cofounder of the Homs Provincial Council and the Syrian Tribal Council. He joined the Syrian Turkoman Council in 2016. He later became member of the SOC’s General Assembly as a representative of the Syrian Turkoman Council until he passed away on Saturday.

The SOC offers its sincere condolences to the family and friends of Nabhan and to his colleagues in the Syrian Turkoman Council.

May he rest in peace.

Preserving independence and national sovereignty and maintaining the Syrian people's unity within the same Syrian soil is one of the critical pillars of the Syrian Coalition. The Coalition aims to overthrow the Assad regime along with all its symbols and pillars. It also aims to dismantle its security apparatus and hold accountable those involved in crimes against Syrians. In addition, it seeks to achieve a transition to a pluralistic, democratic and civil Syria.
