The Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC) is appealing to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to help save hundreds of Syrian households who are still trapped in Sudan. This is due to the fact that the consulate of the Assad regime took their passports, claiming that it would assist in evacuating them to safety. Unfortunately, the representative of the Assad regime seized the passports and contacted the regime’s security agencies to transfer these households to Damascus. This is contrary to what was agreed upon with the Saudi Embassy, which requested that the families hand over their passports to the representative of the Assad regime for checkup before evacuating them to Saudi Arabia.
The SOC is highlighting the need for rapid intervention by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and human rights organizations to rescue hundreds of households who were displaced as a result of the crimes of the Assad regime. The regime is attempting, through its delegates, to force them back to the areas under its control, which exposes them to the risk of arrest, torture, and forced conscription into the ranks of Assad’s criminal forces.
Furthermore, the SOC is calling on the UN High Commissioner for Refugees to take responsibility for evacuating and providing relief to thousands of Syrians caught in the crossfire in Sudan. The SOC also calls for serious and direct action to address this incident, which has exposed hundreds of families to deception.
