The Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC) condemns the terrorist bombing that rocked a popular market in the town of Ras al-Ayn, killing and wounding many civilians, including children and women. We offer our heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims as we wish the wounded a speedy recovery.
It is about time terrorist bombings targeting civilians be brought to an end. The world cannot mobilize and form alliances to fight a type of terrorism – represented by ISIS – and overlook the rest of the types of terrorism that plague the Syrian territory; target Syria’s social fabric, and claim civilian lives. It is regrettable to see continued international support for terrorist militias such as the PKK organization, its affiliates and various franchises in Syria.
There is no benign terrorism and malignant terrorism. Terrorism is one and the same. There is an urgent need for a serious international stance, and even heart-searching, by the international parties that support these militias so as to prevent the recurrence of these bombings. Such attacks are clearly aimed at destroying any semblance of life and sowing chaos.
Further inaction will risk allowing the criminals to plan and carry out more bombings. No-one can be absolved of their responsibilities for providing security and safety for civilians.
We will work to track down those responsible for these bombings in parallel with increased alertness and additional measures by the Syrian Interim Government and Syrian National Army. It is imperative to force out terrorist organizations, especially the PYD terrorist militia, and regime-affiliated elements which are targeting the region and seeking to spread chaos and mayhem.
