Press Statement
Badr Jamous
Syrian Coalition Secretary General
January 8, 2014
The Syrian Coalition condemns the killing of at least 50 people, including fighters, media activists, and aid workers who were held by ISIS (the Islamic State in Iraq and al-Sham.
Silencing activists, suppressing freedoms, and stripping people of human dignity have been among the practices this terrorist group has used. Just like the Assad regime, ISIS is violating basic human rights, denying people freedom of expression, and carrying out summary executions.
We ask God to have mercy upon the fallen heroes, and to bring freedom to those who remain detained by ISIS and by the Assad regime. We pledge to hunt down perpetrators of crimes against the Syrian people and bring them to justice.
We call upon those who have joined or allied with the terrorist group to abandon it and join the ranks of the revolution. We should not forget, however, that the Assad regime is the very source of terrorism in the region. It has facilitated the entry of militias from Iran, Iraq, and Lebanon to slaughter the men, women, and children of Syria.
We urge the Free Syrian Army to close ranks in their attempt to defend the Syrian people and rid Syria of a terrorist tyrannical regime.
We ask for Mercy for our martyrs, health for our wounded, and freedom for our detainees.
Long live Syria and its people, free and with honor.
