The Assad regime and Russian air force on Sunday bombed several neighborhoods, civilian gatherings, a public market, and a civil defense center in the towns of Kafranbel and Maaret Alnouman in rural Idlib, killing at least 56 civilians and injuring dozens more.
The Syrian Coalition condemns these crimes, stressing that they are part of a criminal policy aimed at annihilating as well as displacing the Syrian people struggling for their freedom.
The Coalition denounces all positions betting on the breaking of the will of the Syrian people as it underscores that this would only lead to more death and destruction.
It has become abundantly clear that we cannot expect a positive position from Russia, nor can we expect the murderous Assad regime to willingly stop its crimes. Putting an end to these atrocious crimes, therefore, is fully contingent on the positions of the rest of the international community.
The Coalition stresses the urgent need to convene a special session of the UN General Assembly given the repeated failure of the UN Security Council to address the tragedy unfolding in Syria, namely the continued killings and displacement against the Syrian people for nearly six years. All the countries across the world bear responsibility for the plight of the Syrian people. The upcoming session of the UN General Assembly is a last chance to save millions of civilians in Syria and the region.
The Coalition heartily thanks activists who have taken action to put pressure on Russia and who have openly denounced its support for the Assad regime and its continued bombardment of Syrian civilians.
