We are outraged by reports of the arbitrary killing of civilians committed by Popular Protection Units (YPG)- the armed wing of the Kurdish Democratic Union Party (PYD)- in the village of Tal Brak, rural Hassakah. Crimes against civilians and violations of human rights law are completely unacceptable and condemned.
We also condemn reports of seizing civilians’ possessions and restraining people’s freedoms carried out by the Islamic State in Iraq and al Sham (ISIS) in the village of Tal Ma’rouf, rural Hassakah.
These abhorrent acts of terror and intimidation contravene international humanitarian law, and we are committed to bringing those behind them to justice. Such reprehensible actions not only destroy the social fabric in Syria but also boost the Assad regime in its attempts to crush the uprising calling for freedom and democracy.
