Press Statement
Salem Al Meslet
Syrian Coalition Spokesperson
June 26, 2015
I condemn today’s terrorist attacks in France, Tunisia, and Kuwait. We stand with the French, Tunisian and Kuwaiti peoples and governments against violent extremism and the enemies of civilisation.
In addition to spreading terror and receiving international media coverage, one of the most sinister objectives the terrorists try to achieve when carrying out today’s savage attacks is to sow resentment among different segments of these countries respective societies. That is why it is vital that the people of France, Tunisia, and Kuwait do not allow extremists to inflame community relations, but unite in the face of Islamist extremism.
Whether the attackers were in direct contact with ISIS thugs in Iraq and Syria, or inspired by the group’s evil ideology and the atrocities the thugs are carrying out across the Middle East does not make less urgent the need to defeat ISIS in Iraq, but most importantly in Syria where the group finds a safe haven to regroup, train, allocate resources, and spread its evil across the entire region and beyond.
