According to reports, an unidentified group desecrated the Shrine of Prophet Mohammad’s companion Hajr Bin Adi. The Syrian Coalition strongly condemns this act, regardless of who is found responsible.
The Syrian Coalition and the Syrian people respect holy sites, places of worship, and shrines, as evidenced throughout history. We strongly condemn any abuse or desecration to any holy site, regardless of faith or sect. The Syrian Coalition has taken action to investigate this matter, and will bring those responsible to accountability and ensure that such an incident does not occur again.
Extensive evidence from the past two years reveals the Assad regime’s utter disregard for the sanctity of mosques, churches, temples, and sites of cultural and religious heritage.
Based on this evidence, the Syrian Coalition calls for a rejection of the sectarian discourse and practices, which the regime continues to promote. We ask that our people employ reason and tolerance, and not be drawn into these evil practices, which contradict the true spirit and values of the Syrian people.
Long live Syria and its people, free and with honor.
