Yesterday, the UN Security Council once more failed to reach agreement on a press statement that would have condemned the Assad regime’s ongoing and vicious attacks using barrel bombs against Aleppo. The Council’s inaction demonstrates its continued inability to take decisive action to uphold international law and protect the Syrian people. Russia has once again proven itself the primary obstacle to Council action. From the start of the crisis, Russia has protected its Syrian ally. It has vetoed UN Security Council resolutions, supplied weapons to the regime, and protected its client, Assad, both politically and militarily. Russia’s support has prolonged the Syrian conflict. To improve the situation in Syria, Russia must stop its unconditional support of the Assad regime.
We ask for Mercy for our martyrs, health for our wounded, and freedom for our detainees.
Long live Syria and its people, free and with honor.
