February 06, 2023
The Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC) urgently calls on the international community and humanitarian organizations to provide aid to those affected by the devastating earthquake that struck Syrian cities and towns today. The extensive damage to hundreds of residential buildings has resulted in significant casualties. The already severe destruction caused by the earthquake has been compounded by years of bombardment by the Assad regime and its allies, particularly in Aleppo province.
The earthquake was primarily felt in northwestern Syria, but its effects were felt as far as the Syrian coast, Hama and Homs, and even reached the capital city of Damascus through aftershocks. The SOC, through its institutions, including the Syrian Interim Government, the Syrian National Army, and the Free Police Force, has been working tirelessly to help those in need and provide rescue efforts.
The SOC appeals to the international community for immediate emergency intervention to alleviate the impact of the earthquake in the affected villages and towns in northwestern Syria. Our team continues to communicate and coordinate with all local and international agencies to support those impacted by this disaster.
We extend our deepest condolences to the people of Syria and our brothers in Türkiye and wish for safety for all.
