Assad Forces Commit Horrific Massacre in Idlib in 1st Response to Reaffirmed Commitment to Idlib Agreement
The Assad regime forces committed a horrific massacre claiming the lives of nine civilians, mostly children and women in the town of Khan Sheikhoun in southern rural Idlib late on Friday.
The Syrian Civil Defense said that nine people - six children and three women - were killed and many others were injured as a result of intense rocket shelling by the Assad regime forces on the town. Some of the victims were burned beyond recognition.
Local activists said that regime forces stationed in the town of Abu Dali in southeast rural Idlib carried out the shelling, pointing out that some of the rockets were filled with cluster bombs resulting in large explosions and fires.
Activists pointed out that the injured were rushed to nearby hospitals for treatment, adding that some were in critical condition. Similar shelling targeted the towns of Jarjanaz, Tal Minnis, Ma’arshemmarin, Ma’arshamasha, and Al-Tih.
The Syrian Coalition called upon the international community to put an end these crimes, stressing that these massacres prove without doubt that the Assad regime insists on its bloody behavior and on blocking all political processes sparing the country more death and destruction.
The Assad regime and its allied militias continue to violate all conventions in place. The regime’s intensified shelling has killed more that 100 civilians, including 15 civilians who were killed in a week in Khan Sheikoun alone. The shelling continues despite the Idlib Agreement establishing a demilitarized zone and calling for a ceasefire in the province. (Source: Syrian Coalition’s Media Department)
