Infuriated by the heavy losses his forces suffered in Idlib province, where rebels overran two major regime strongholds, the Assad regime has escalated indiscriminate shelling in opposition-held areas. Activists said that 13 civilians were killed in air raids on the town of Kafr Takharim in rural Idlib, while 12 more were killed yesterday in aerial and artillery shelling on Al Waer district near Homs. Salem al-Meslet, spokesman for the Syrian Coalition, said that the Assad regime seeks through these vengeful attacks to cover up its defeats in front of rebels in Dara’a and Idlib, calling on the international community to shoulder its responsibilities and protect civilians in Syria through providing practical support for the Free Syrian Army to beat off the terrorism of the Assad regime and the extremist group ISIS.
