Member of the Syrian Coalition Mohammed Dughaim expressed hope that the results of the possible military strikes against the Assad regime in response to the use of chemical weapons against civilians in Douma in eastern Ghouta will correspond with the scale of the crimes Assad is committing in Syria. He also expressed hope that the strikes will target the head of the regime and affect it directly.
“It is not with chemical weapons only that Assad is killing the Syrian people, but also with barrel bombs which killed many times the people who were killed by chemical weapons. The Assad regime is also using prohibited weapons, such as inflammable napalm, cluster bombs, and incendiary phosphorus.”
“International action to depose this criminal regime has long been overdue as the regime significantly contributed to the spread of terrorism in the region after it brought dozens of sectarian militias to Syria. It will take a lot of time to cleanse the country from the remnants of the regime after its downfall,” Dughaim said.
Member of the Coalition Mohammed al-Fadli said that Russia’s use of its veto power 12 times on the UN Security Comical, the latest of which was on Tuesday to shield Assad represented tacit admission of Assad’s responsibility for the most atrocious crimes.
“Over the past few years, the Assad regime has proved that he knows only how to kill and that it will not agree to a political solution. Russia, its partner in the crimes, has also proven that it does not believe in political solutions as it shows utmost intransigence on the UN Security Council. Russia insists on shielding Assad from any punishment and refuses to force him to make compromises that are need to reach a political solution that puts an end to the bloodshed and the crimes and transition the country to the stage of rebuilding, security and democracy,” Fadli added.
Dughaim stressed that the Syrian people deserves the international community’s support and sympathy corresponding with the tremendous sacrifices they are making to regain their freedom and dignity. “The current situation in Syria requires a real solution, which can only be achieved through military action. It is time for the leaders of United States and France to carry out the threats they issued against.” (Source: Syrian Coalition’s Media Department)
