The Syrian National Coalition said that the escalating terrorist attacks by the Assad regime and its allies in the provinces of Idlib, Aleppo and Lattakia have entered a new phase of criminality and destruction, which requires an urgent, effective international intervention.
In a press release issued on Thursday, the Coalition called for an emergency meeting by the UN Security Council to address the latest developments and take the necessary steps to stop this criminal attack and the systematic shelling targeting residential neighborhoods in those areas and to ensure protection for civilians.
“The international community, through its official institutions, has a duty to shoulder its responsibilities with regards to the ongoing escalation; put an end to the ongoing war crimes; and hold the perpetrators accountable,” the Coalition said.
“The Coalition reaffirms that attacks by the Assad regime and its allies on civilian areas in and around Idlib constitute systematic war crimes aimed primarily at killing and displacing civilians.”
The Coalition said that it was communicating with the envoys and representatives of international parties. We have already made clear the need for effective, urgent pressure and for taking concrete action to stop this barbaric onslaught.
Over the past few days, violent bombardment and shelling targeted many towns and villages in the region, mainly targeting residential neighborhoods, civil defense centers, schools, and hospitals. The attacks killed and injured dozens of civilians as well as caused massive destruction. (Source: Syrian National Coalition’s Media Department)
