The Syrian Coalition’s General Assembly elected Abdurrahman Mustafa as president for a one-year term, while Badr Jamous, Dima Moussa, and Abdel Basset Hamou were elected as vice-presidents. Nazir al-Hakim was elected as Secretary-General.
Mustafa won 66 votes at the 39th General Assembly meeting which was held in Istanbul on Saturday and Sunday.
A new 19-member political committee was also elected. The members are: Anas al-Abdah, Hadi al-Bahra, Abdel-Ahad Steifo, Mohammed al-Abdallah, Bashar al-Zoabi, Amal Sheikho, Riad al-Hasan, Ahmad Ramadan, Jamal al-Ward, Mohammed Salim al-Khatib, Oqab Yahya Maktabi, Muahammed Yahya Maktabi, Haytham Rahma, Yasser Farhan, Hawwas Khalil, Abdul Majeed al-Barakat, Mohammed Sallou, Fadi Ibrahim, and Fouad Alliko.
Members of the General Assembly discussed the latest field and political developments, especially the continued war crimes and violations by the Assad regime, Russia and Iran against civilians in different parts of Syria.
Members of the General Assembly strongly condemned the string of mass forced displacements operations against the civilian population, the most recent of which took place in northern rural Homs and before it in eastern Ghouta.
The Assembly’s members also stressed that the use of chemical weapons is a blatant defiance to the United Nations and international resolutions, stressing the need to activate the international accountability mechanism and to bring Bashar al-Assad and all symbols of his regime before justice.
