The PYD terrorist militia has imposed transit fees on civilians in the Deir Ezzor countryside and placed certain towns under siege in the areas under its control in the province.
According to the local Deir Ezzor 24 news network, the PYD terrorist militia imposed transit fees on civilians traveling across the Euphrates River between the towns of Al-Jeneina and Al-Hawaij in the Deir Ezzor countryside.
Meanwhile, the Ain al-Furat news network reported that the PYD terrorist militia initiated a siege on the towns of Al-Hussan and Al-Jeneina, which are under its control, west of Deir Ezzor, since Monday night. Subsequently, a large-scale raid and arrest operation took place in the two towns during the early hours of Tuesday. This action was accompanied by internet shutdowns, curfews, and restrictions on food entry.
Last Thursday, Vice President of the Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC), Abdul Majeed Barakat, reiterated the importance of safeguarding civilians east of the Euphrates and halting ongoing violations against them, particularly those affecting children and women, which compel people to migrate and seek safer havens.
Barakat urged the American administration to withdraw support for the PYD terrorist militia, despite Washington describing them as “partners” in its statements. He added that persisting with this characterization tarnishes the reputation of the United States and may have legal consequences, especially as the PYD militia is engaging in war crimes documented by international human rights organizations.
Barakat highlighted international human rights reports that document the blatant violations of the PYD terrorist militia in the areas under its control east of the Euphrates. These reports elucidate why the SOC consistently calls for ending support for this militia, holding perpetrators of war crimes accountable, and empowering local communities to manage their areas autonomously rather than under an authoritarian model similar to the Assad regime.
