The Syrian Coalition said that the “cessation of hostilities” agreement reached between the United States and Russia would be meaningless unless it lead to a real political transition in Syria. The Coalition stressed that the agreement must set the stage for a political transition that ensures ending the rule of the Assad family and achieving the Syrian people’s aspirations for freedom and dignity.
At a meeting with Canada’s Foreign Minister Stephane Dion on Wednesday morning, the political committee called upon the Canadian government to support the efforts aimed at bringing about a real political transition in Syria without Bashar al-Assad and his inner circle.
The political committee thanked the Canadian government for the support it provides for the Syrian refugees, calling for special focus on the educational and medical aspects. The Coalition also stressed the need for the delivery of humanitarian aid to besieged areas and for the release of detainees. Moreover, it called for separating the political and humanitarian tracks saying that improving the humanitarian conditions should not be subject to negotiations. (Source: Syrian Coalition)
