A Course in Eco-Sanitation to Reduce the Spread of Epidemics
The Health Office of Assistance Coordination Unit (ACU) conducted a training course in eco-sanitation to raise awareness of the importance of how to use and purify water after the spread of many diseases caused by water pollution and most importantly polio epidemic. The four-day course was attended by Syrian experts and other organizations and with the cooperation with an international expert in sanitation. A workshop for each province was formed to conduct a two-week study on the situation of water in each province. The ACU agreed to send equipment to the Syrian provinces and to appoint a specialist to permanently supervise them. Informed sources in ACU said that weekly reports would be released on the situation of water and the people’s needs. The course comes in conjunction with the launch of a campaign for the mobile vaccination against polio by ACU and in cooperation with a number of medical organizations, starting from Thursday, January 2, 2014. Death Toll: 39 People Killed Today, 104 Yesterday
Local Coordination Committees documented 104 people killed yesterday, while 39 people were killed as of 6:00 pm of today, including a woman and two children. Deaths were cited as: 38 in Aleppo, and one in Damascus. (Source: Local Coordination Committees)

63 Civilians Killed In Barrel Bombs Attacks in Aleppo
In the latest series of massacres committed by Assad’s air force in Aleppo, 50 civilians were killed in the neighborhood of Tariq al Bab, in addition to 13 others who were killed in Mayassar neighborhood. Assad’s air force also launched air raids on Baba al Hawa border crossing, and on the village of Sheikh Issa in rural Aleppo, with reports of civilian casualties and material damage. The FSA shelled the Military Security Branch in Aleppo with mortal rounds. According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, more than 560 people were killed in the eastern neighborhoods and in rural areas of Aleppo over the 13-day aerial campaign. Four Die in Yarmouk Refugee Camp Due To the Assad Regime’s Blockade
Four people died in Yarmouk refugee camp in Damascus, including a woman due to hunger, drought and lack of medical care caused by the blockade imposed by regime forces on the district in southern Damascus. Regime forces shelled the neighborhoods of Yarmouk, Douma, Qadam, and Babilla, alongside clashes with the FSA. Activists reported that the Free Syrian Army captured Brigade No.122 and a number of weapon depots near the town of Dumair and killed 15 pro-Assad forces. FSA on the Offensive in Deir Ezzor
Fighters of the Islamic Front and other factions captured the village on Jaffra near Deir Ezzor air base, and destroying a tank and capturing a heavy machine gun. Activist reported heavy losses on the part of regime forces and the Shiite militias that back them. Regime forces retaliated by shelling the town, besides shelling the town of Mouhasan with heavy artillery. Two civilians were killed in the town of Tabaqqa in Raqqa province as a result of regime shelling. Shelling was carried out by regime forces targeted a market for vegetables in the city of Brive class tenderness. Meanwhile, the Free Syrian Army announced it had captured the village of Tal Ghazal near Qamishli and killed a number of elements of the Kurdish Democratic Union’s Party (PYD). Intense Shelling on Homs, FSA Advances in Rural Hama
Two civilians were killed in Hula in rural Homs as a result of regime shelling. The cities of Palmyra and Talbisa also came under intense shelling by regime forces. Meanwhile, the Free Syrian Army captured two regime checkpoints near Souran and Atshan north of Hama after violent clashes with regime forces. Ongoing Shelling on Dara’a
Assad’s air force conducted many air strikes on the towns of Noaima and Jassim in rural Dara’a. Heavy shelling by artillery was also reported on the towns of Ma’raba, Hiraq, and Um Walad. Meanwhile, violent clashes took place between the Free Syrian Army and regime forces in the neighborhood of Tariq al Sad in central Dara’a, amid the regime’s attempts to break into the neighborhood.
