Atassi: Assad Regime Uses The Weapon Of Starvation Against The Syrian People
ACU’s head Suhair Atassi calls on the international community to put pressure on Russia and Iran to lift the siege imposed by the Assad regime on a number of areas in Syria. “The Assad regime did not stop at using chemical weapons against the Syrian people, but also used the weapon of starvation,” referring to the death of a number of residents of the Yarmouk Camp in Damascus due to hunger. “The United Nations entered all areas of Syria to search for chemical weapons, but they do not send a little bread to the trapped civilians,” she said. Atassi stressed that “the international community would not have kept silent if this had happened elsewhere.” Atassi calls on the international community to refer Assad to the ICC in The Hague to stand trial. Preserving independence and national sovereignty and maintaining the Syrian people's unity within the same Syrian soil is one of the critical pillars of the Syrian Coalition. The Coalition aims to overthrow the Assad regime along with all its symbols and pillars. It also aims to dismantle its security apparatus and hold accountable those involved in crimes against Syrians. In addition, it seeks to achieve a transition to a pluralistic, democratic and civil Syria.
