Rebel fighters took control of the town of Bosra al-Sham in eastern rural Dara’a after fierce clashes with regime forces backed by militiamen of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and of the National Defense Forces (NDF). Rebels earlier cut off the regime forces supply routes to inside the town.
On Saturday rebels began advancing on the town in an offensive dubbed the “Al-Qaddissiya of Bosra al-Sham,” named after the historic Battle of Al-Qadisiyah resulting in the conquest of the Persians and the end of the Persian Empire in the seventh century AD.
Spokesman for the Syrian Coalition Salem al-Meslet said that he highly lauds the successive rebel gains in Bosra al-Sham and the city of Idlib despite the unlimited support the Assad regime receives from Hezbollah and the IRGC militias who are spearheading the battles on all fronts in Syria.
Meslet renews confidence in revolution forces that defend civilians and abide by the principles of the revolution and its morals and respect the international norms and conventions, stressing the Syrian Coalition’s commitment to the principles of the revolution and its goals.
Vice-President Hisham Marwa hails the “heroic fight put up by the FSA against the regime’s terror and the Iranian invasion of Syria, especially in Dara’a, Eastern Ghouta and Aleppo.”
“The FSA fighters have repelled successive attacks led by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps in Dara’a, northern Aleppo and Eastern Ghouta over the past few days and killed and captured hundreds of invading forces. Motivated by unshakeable faith in the cause they fight for, they have demonstrated tremendous courage and steely determination though under-resourced and outgunned,” Marwa added.
