Member of the political committee Hadi Al-Bahra criticizes the international anti-ISIS coalition’s strategy in Syria, adding that it has avoiding targeting the Assad regime which is facilitating ISIS’s takeover of the rebel-held areas.
The US-led coalition fighting against ISIS is reexamining its strategy after recent gains in Syria and Iraq. The coalition is meeting in Paris after ISIS conquered both the Iraqi city of Ramadi and the historic Syrian city of Palmyra. More than 4,100 airstrikes from the coalition have failed to stop gains by the Islamic State. France’s Foreign Minister, Laurent Fabius, chaired the conference in which 24 ministers and representatives of international organizations are participating.
Bahra calls on the international anti-ISIS coalition to shoulder its responsibility towards Syria’s rebels who are fighting ISIS in northern and southern Syria without receiving any military support or even reconnaissance information.
He points out that the Assad regime has recently facilitated ISIS’s takeover of rebel-held areas through targeting them with air raids, as in the rebel-held town of Maree north of Aleppo two days ago. The international coalition meanwhile has abstained from providing air coverage for rebels they need to hold ISIS back. (Source: Syrian Coalition)
