Secretary-General of the Arab League Nabil al-Arabi reaffirmed the Arab League’s continued support for the revolution of the Syrian people and their aspirations for freedom and dignity during a meeting with head of the legal committee Haitham al-Maleh. Al Arabi emphasized that there is return for the Assad regime to the Arab League.
He also said that the remarks he has recently made in Moscow were misquoted, adding that the Arab League still believes that a political solution in Syria comes through the formation of a transitional governing body with full powers on the basis of the Geneva Communique and the relevant UN resolutions.
Maleh said that he informed the Arab League chief that the situation in Syria is developing in the rebels’ favor, especially in Aleppo and Dara’a, stressing that Assad now controls no more than 20% of Syria’s territory. He stressed that had it not been for the intervention of Hezbollah and other Iranian-backed sectarian militias, Assad would have fallen long time ago.
Maleh pointed out that Syria’s seat in the Arab League is for all the Syrian people and not for the Syrian Coalition only. “Our taking over of Syria’s seat is just a matter of time, and it is shameful for any Arab state was or any other country to stand by this murderous regime.” (Source: Syrian Coalition)
