The Syrian Coalition held a press conference today to raise awareness of the situation in northern rural Aleppo in general, and the town of Mare’ in particular which has been coming under fierce attacks by ISIS.
The press conference was held in the Turkish city of Gaziantep and was attended by Syrian Coalition member Osama Taljou, rebel commander Modar Najjar and media activist Abu Firas al-Halabi.
They issued a statement stressing that the importance of the battle in northern rural Aleppo lies in the fact that this area is the human reservoir of the revolution in this area and represents the most important supply lines for the rebels in Aleppo, in addition to being the spark of the revolution in Aleppo province.
The statement said that ISIS targeted the town of Mare’ alone with 23 vehicle bombs besides hitting the town with toxic gases in two occasions.
It added that ISIS stepped up its offensive on northern rural Aleppo following the rebel’s announcement of forming a joint operations room to coordinate military efforts against regime forces in Aleppo.
The statement decries the absence of international attention to the humanitarian situation in northern Aleppo compared to what happened during ISIS’s onslaught on the town of Ayn al-Arab (Kobani).
It pointed out that civilians are now living in the open and among the trees amid severe shortages in life-saving necessities such as food and medicine. (Source: Syrian Coalition)
