Head of the Legal Committee Haitham al-Maleh said that the Russian military intervention in Syria is aimed at expanding its influence in the region in coordination with the Iranian regime, pointing out that Russia has become an occupying country after its increasing military build-up in Syria.
He stresses that the Russian military intervention in Syria violates international law and its responsibilities as a permanent UN the Security Council member, warning that Russia will bear the results of their actions in the future.
He described the reported regime’s request for Russia to directly intervene in Syria as illegal and made by a regime that has lost legitimacy to rule after launching a brutal war on the Syrian people for over for years.
Vice President Hisham Marwa stated that this intervention would undermine the political process, especially that article 12 (Item B) of the Geneva I Communique stipulates that members of the work groups oppose any escalation in militarization of the conflict.
Marwa stresses that the Syrian Coalition will reject engaging Assad in the transitional period or in the political future of Syria, adding that the transitional governing body is the only body capable of combating terrorism. (Source: Syrian Coalition)
