Political committee member Mwafaq Nairabiye states that Iran must agree to the Geneva I Communique and UN Security Council resolutions before engaging in any political process on Syria. He also stresses that Iran must stop its aggression on Syria and withdraw all troops and militias fighting alongside the Assad regime.
Nairabiye stresses that Iran has foiled all efforts aimed at reaching a political solution and is responsible for killings and displacing Syrian people. He warns that Iran will prevent international efforts if engaged in the upcoming Vienna meeting on Syria, specifically because it strongly opposes the departure of Bashar al-Assad and preserving Syria’s territorial integrity.
Political committee member Fayez Sarah rejects engaging Iran in any talks on Syria, stressing it is not neutral and a partner to the Assad regime in killing Syrians as well as occuping parts of Syrian territory through its affiliated militias, including the Lebanese Hezbollah militia.
Sarah pointed out that Iran has not yet agreed to the Geneva I Communique or to the UN Security Council resolution 2118, which was approved by all states as a basis for a political solution in Syria.
He added that the early participation of Iran in the political talks on Syria will have negative impact and will undermine the political process, especially that the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps has been leading the fighting against the Free Syrian Army since 2012. (Source: Syrian Coalition)
