The Kurdish National Council (KNC) said that the Democratic Union Party (PYD) is still carrying out actions aimed at intimidating the population in the areas under the PYD control. The council condemned the PYD practices, stressing that it will continue to struggle for the sake of the Kurdish issue and the rights of the Syrian Kurdish community.
The council pointed out that the PYD’s actions threaten civil peace within the Kurdish community, citing the forced recruitment of young Kurdish men and women into the ranks of the PYD militias as an example of such intimidating practices.
A young man, Abdo Mohammed, reportedly committed suicide after he has been forced to join the PYD militias in the town of Rajo in Alhasaka province, according to the council.
The PYD militias have stormed the village of Afraz and detained a girl who was then forced to join the PYD militias. The PYD militias have also encircled the villages of Kosanli, Qastal, Khadraiya, Albasotah and Burj Abdalo around Afrin to round up young Kurdish men of military age for forced recruitment.
On July 30, the PYD militias planted an explosive device at the entrance of the Kurdistan Democratic Party’s offices in the village of Karkili.
The Kurdish National Council stressed that the PYD’s nefarious practices against the council and its supporters are designed to eliminate all political opponents in the predominantly Kurdish areas. The council noted that such actions contravene human ​​and Kurdish values, calling upon all humanitarian organizations, the international community and all Kurdish forces to act to stop the PYD’s abusive practices.
