The Syrian Coalition said that attempts by the Assad regime and its allies to re-impose blockade on Aleppo risk undermining all chances of reaching an agreement between the US and Russia to find a solution in Syria.
Member of the Coalition’s political committee Abdul Ahad Steifo said that the policies of the Assad regime are the reason behind the stalled efforts aimed at reviving the cessation of hostilities agreement in Syria. He added that real enforcement of international resolutions on Syria would undoubtedly force the regime to go back to the negotiation table.
Member of the Coalition’s political committee Yasser Alfarhan said that the Assad regime’s military escalation took place along renewed efforts by regional and international actors to reach an agreement on Syria. He stressed that the regime’s escalation is aimed at undermining all such efforts.
The international community’s long inaction towards Assad’s policies encouraged him to carry on with these policies crossing all red lines, Alfarhan said. He added that this inaction also made it almost impossible to hold a balance on the ground, protect civilians, and put the political process back on track. (Source: Syrian Coalition)
