Head of the Syrian interim government Jawad Abu Hatab said that the Assad regime and Russian air forces have targeted no fewer than 52 hospitals and medical centers since the beginning of 2016. Airstrikes by the Assad regime and Russian forces have also repeatedly targeted aid convoys destined for besieged civilians, the latest of which was a UN-Syrian Arab Red Crescent aid convoy near Aleppo on Tuesday.
Abu Hatab pointed out that Russia and the Assad regime have been systematically targeting vital civilian infrastructure in order to force civilians out of their homes thus bringing about a demographic change in Syria.
Head of the interim government, which is based in and operating from the liberated areas, stressed that stopping the bombardment; lifting sieges; delivering humanitarian aid; and releasing detainees are not preconditions, but are crucial measures to create the appropriate conditions for the resumptions of negotiations. These negotiations should lead to a political solution based on international resolutions, he added.
“We are absolutely certain that the Russian and Assad regime jets bombed the aid convoy near Aleppo on Tuesday. The Free Syrian Army groups have photos videos showing the moment the attack took place and the remnants of the weapons used in this terrorist attack,” Abu Hatab said.
“We have seen in Saraqib how the Russian invaders bombed the town with internationally banned weapons, especially napalm. Facilities and universities run by the interim government were also targeted by airstrikes which killed a number of students.”
The Abu Hatab went on to say that the Assad regime and its allies have used all methods of murder against the Syrian people over the past five and half years. The absence of accountability has encouraged the Assad regime to blatantly defy all international resolutions. (Source: Syrian Coalition)
