Secretary-General of the Syrian Coalition Abdul Ilah Alfahd said that the United States and Russia “agreed to disagree” with regard to a political solution in Syria.
At a meeting with the Australian envoy to Syria Tamsin Sanderson on Tuesday, Alfahd pointed out that the ongoing brutal assault on Aleppo by the Assad regime and its allies is undermining all chances of reaching a political solution. He added that the destructive campaign on Aleppo is clearly aimed at emptying the city of its residents and bringing about a demographic change in the county in flagrant defiance of international resolutions.
The besieged neighborhoods in eastern Aleppo have been recently subjected to intense bombardment by the Russian and Assad regime’s air forces using internationally prohibited weapons. The airstrikes on the rebel-held parts of the city left dozens of civilians killed and injured on Monday and caused massive damage to civilian homes and the infrastructure.
Alfahd made it clear that the Assad regime and Russian warplanes were behind the bombing of a UN-Syrian Arab Red Crescent aid convoy near Aleppo on September 19. He stressed that the attack violated international resolutions including the UN Security Council resolution 2156 which called for unfettered humanitarian access to those in need across Syria.
