Member of the Syrian Coalition’s legal committee Hisham Marwa said that remarks made by Russia’s Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu on Tuesday that the resumption of peace talks in Syria has been postponed “indefinitely” do not signal any change whatsoever in the Russian position on the conflict in Syria. He stressed that Russia has never supported a political process in Syria whether before or after its direct military intervention in Syria in September 2015.
Marwa pointed out that all previous statements by Russian officials about the resumption of peace talks “have always been insincere and misleading,” adding that Russia aids and abets the Assad regime in the besiegement and the bombardment of civilians to force them out of their homes.
Marwa said that the Free Syrian Army has made “spectacular progress” in northern Syria in recent months despite Russia’s actions, stressing that “the will of the people cannot be defeated.” (Source: Syrian Coalition + Al Jazeera)
