The cooling unit for preserving vegetables and fruits in the town of Marea in rural Aleppo has started receiving agricultural products at reduced prices as a kind of support for farmers and to help control prices by making agricultural products available throughout the year.
Head of the storage and marketing department of the Syrian Interim Government, Ahmed Shaban, said: This facility is the first of its kind in the liberated areas. It was equipped with a fully automatic control system that contributes to preserving fruit and vegetable products at appropriate temperatures and humidity.
Shaaban added that the facility was established midway between farmlands and local markets in order to reduce the cost of transport for farmers and also to reduce damage to the products.
He also indicated that the cooling unit has a storage capacity of about 1,300 tons of potatoes, making it one of the vital agricultural facilities that support farmers, agricultural production, and marketing operations of agricultural products.
