President of the Syrian Opposition Coalition, Nasr Al-Hariri, sent a letter to the Iraqi Prime Minister, Mustafa Al-Kadhimi, demanding the withdrawal of all Iraqi militias from Syria.
Al-Hariri stressed that the Iraqi militias are now being used as a tool by the Iranian regime to interfere in the internal affairs of regional countries and serve the expansionist ambitions of the mullahs’ regime, which threatens the security of the region and risks undermining its social fabric.
The Iraqi militias have a proven track record of war crimes and human rights violations, Al-Hariri said, warning that these crimes will risk damaging the fraternal relations between the two brotherly peoples on the long term.
Al-Hariri pointed out that the demand for the withdrawal of Iraqi militias from Syria is based on the new foreign policy outlines the Iraqi government announced on May 6, 2020, especially the principle of refusing to use Iraqi lands to attack any of its neighbors or to turn Iraq into an arena for regional and international score-settling.
Al-Hariri stressed that the Iraqi government’s determination to combat terrorism in Iraq will not be successful unless the terrorism represented by the Iraqi militias in Syria is defeated once and for all.
Iraq and its people are well aware of the suffering of the Syrian people as they have shed blood and tears, and paid heavy a price due to militia criminality, internal conflicts and external interference, Al-Hariri said. He stressed that the Syrian people are looking forward to the Iraqi government’s to put an end to the crimes of these militias.
Al-Hariri reaffirmed the SOC’s keenness on establishing the best fraternal relations with the Republic of Iraq and its permanent desire to strengthen those relations in a way that serves the two brotherly peoples.
