The Syrian Opposition Coalition’s (SOC) political committee held a regular meeting on Thursday. It began the meeting by paying a tribute to doctor Adnan Al-Jasem, the first medical worker to lose his life fighting the coronavirus in the liberated areas in rural Aleppo.
SOC’s President Nasr Al-Hariri, gave an overview on the latest on the ground and political developments as well as the results of the meetings the SOC held in the past week. He also talked about the grave health situation in the liberated areas due to the spread of the coronavirus, pointing to a surge in the infection cases in the past few days.
Participants in the meeting stressed the importance of putting forward proposals and recommendations to the Syrian Interim Government and the Ministry of Health to tighten measures to stem the spread of the virus.
Members of the presidential body and political committees reviewed the results of the SOC’s meeting with the Kurdish National Council and the national political vision. They emphasized the need to work together to face the challenges laying ahead.
Secretary-General, Abdel-Basit Abdel-Latif, presented a report detailing the ongoing preparations and agenda of the upcoming General Assembly meeting due to take place on Saturday and Sunday.
Participants discussed the proposed amendments to the national political vision which will be presented to the SOC’s components for approval and to be adopted as an official document.
The Military Liaison Office presented its report detailing the situation of the Syrian National Army and its combat readiness as well as the Assad regime and its backers’ continued crimes against civilians in the liberated areas.
Participants also discussed the report of the Committee of the Unions and Sports Associations detailing progress in the work of the Syrian Olympic Committee on organizing the activities of Syrian athletes and its cooperation with the SIG in improving sports facilities in the liberated areas.
They suggested amending the regulatory relationship between the SOC and SIG, adding new suggestions to be presented and approved by the General Assembly. (Source: SOC’s Media Department)
