The Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC) held the second consultative meeting under the supervision of the National Dialogue Committee. The meeting brought together about 50 participaants who discussed the results of the first consultative meeting, the latest developments in Syria, and the challenges facing the revolution.
SOC’s President, Nasr Al-Hariri, thanked participants for answering the invitation as he stressed the importance of these meetings to establish real partnership between the SOC and all institutions and bodeis of the Syrian revolution.
He pointed out that partnership is broader than consultation, which increases the chances of effective communication in order to meet the demands of the Syrian people for freedom, dignity and democracy. He stressed that reform is a broad concept that focuses on the structure while paying attention to other issues.
He pointed out that the SOC was initially formed to represent the Syrian people. As the conflict dragged on, the SOC tasks and responsibilities considerbly increased, Al-Hariri said, adding that the SOC is currently performing its basic function and is working to reach the highest levels of empowerment.
Coordinator of the National Dialogue Committee, Salem Al-Meslet, also talked about the challenges facing the Syrian revolution, stressing the importance of combining of sincere efforts to build a unified nation away from tyranny and terrorism. He said: “We are seeking to form a national core that serves as the basis of work in the future.”
Input by participants focused on defining the SOC’s role and its political and strategic visions, the role of the Syrian Interim Government in managing the liberated areas and improving the living conditions, the work of civil society organizations, the pro-revolution media, and activating the role of youth and women.
Participants agreed to review the questions and suggestins put forward as they stressed the existence of many commonalities on which the participatory process will be based. (Source: SOC’s Media Department)
