The Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC) said that the economic, health and political crises in Syria are the result of the regime’s rampant corruption, its mismanagement of the country, its structural inability to make correct decisions, and its prioritization of holding to power at the expense of the Syrian people and the future of Syria.
In a press release issued on Friday, the SOC said that the recent remarks by the head of the regime made it clear the main cause of the suffering of the Syrian people, the ongoing economic collapse in the country, and the health and humanitarian crises have nothing to do with the Western sanctions or with the Caesar Act.
“The fact that tens of billions of dollars have been smuggled out of Syria and deposited in foreign banks confirms what all Syrians have long known: The Assad regime and its cronies are stealing this money and transferring it to their bank accounts abroad,” the SOC added.
The SOC stressed that the regime’s “use of the state’s assets and resources in the war on the Syrian people, in parallel with handing over the country’s resources and major assets to the Russian and Iranian occupiers are mainly to blame for the current situation in Syria.”
“There will be no real solutions unless the root cause of the crises and disasters is removed through an inclusive political process that leads to the implementation of UN Security Council resolutions and salvages the Syrian people.” (Source: SOC’s Media Department)
