With the coordination of the Syrian Opposition Coalition’s (SOC) Office of Syrian Communities Abroad, SOC’s President Nasr al-Hariri made a video call with members of the Syrian community in Denmark who are participating in a sit-in protest outside the Danish Parliament to protest against the decision to revoke the residence permits of hundreds of Syrian refugees in Denmark.
Al-Hariri saluted the demonstrations as he expressed his appreciation to Shadi Al-Hamwi and his son Osama for announcing that they were going on a hunger strike in solidarity with the Syrian refugees affected by the decision. He said that this demonstration of solidarity indicated the depth of the cohesion amongst the Syrian people as the strikers were not affected by the decision themselves.
Al-Hariri stressed that the Assad regime’s crimes continue in the areas under its control, the latest of which is the displacement of hundreds of people from Quneitra. He said that these areas are witnessing widespread chaos, arrests, assassinations and instability, refuting reports about the return of stability to the regime areas. He said that international and UN reports confirmed that the regime’s areas are not safe, and the crimes are still going on.
Moreover, he stressed that the SOC will follow up on this issue with the Danish government, the European Union and international organizations, especially the European Court of Human Rights to ensure the renewal of the residence permits of refugees who fled to escape the oppression of the regime and its crimes.
Coordinator of the Communities Office Muhammad Yahya Maktabi said that the meeting came as part of a series of meetings that aim to help overcome the obstacles facing Syrian refugees wherever they are.
The Danish government has recently issued a decision to revoke the resident permits of hundreds of Syrian refugees residing on its territory claiming that the regime-held areas are safe. Many rights organizations warned that these people will be arrested and killed if they are forcibly repatriated to the Assad regime areas. (Source: SOC’s Media Department)
