Member of the Syrian Opposition Coalition’s (SOC) political committee, Muhammad Yahya Maktabi, said that the Assad regime and its backers believe only in military solution through the use of barrel bombs, chemical weapons, siege and starvation. He was speaking at an advocacy dialogue for Dara’a along with participants from several Arab countries. He stressed that the Assad regime is employing in Dara’a exactly the same tactics it previously used against the Syrian people in Aleppo, eastern Ghouta, Homs, and the rest of Syrian cities and towns.
Maktabi added that the Assad has no problem ruling over cemeteries, ruins, piles of skulls, body parts, and blood as his sole aim is to remain perched on the chests of the Syrian people.
Maktabi pointed out that Assad is competing with major international gangs for drugs trafficking, citing the almost daily seizure of drugs that the Assad regime is trying to smuggle to neighboring countries and beyond.
Moreover, Maktabi warned that Assad is Khamenei’s puppet in Damascus, just as Hassan Nasrallah is Khamenei’s puppet in Beirut. He also said that Assad is one of the tools that the Iranian mullahs’ regime is using to serve its project in the region, stressing that this project is based on a hateful sectarian rhetoric that is sowing strife, hatred and murder in the region.
Maktabi stressed that the Assad regime poses a real danger to the countries of the region and the world, and that any thought of rehabilitating it is absolutely wrong. He warned that if the regime is allowed to catch its breath, it will seek revenge on all the countries and individuals who supported the Syrian Revolution.
He expressed his disappointment at the betrayal of the international community which claimed to protect human rights, women and children and long upheld the slogans of freedom and democracy while watching the Syrian carnage going on for 10 years at the hands of the Assad regime.
Maktabi addressed the international community: “If you want to eliminate ISIS, Al-Qaeda and their offspring, you must eliminate the terrorism of Assad and Khamenei, because allowing the continuation of Assad and Khamenei’s terror means the resurgence of terrorism of ISIS, Al-Qaeda and their offspring. He said that this will pose a threat to international peace and security.
He called on participants in the dialogue to clarify these facts through articles, lectures and seminars, calling also for providing humanitarian support for the people of Dara’a. (Source: SOC’s Media Department)
