The Syrian Opposition Coalition’s (SOC) foreign mission in the United States participated in the preparations by the Syrian-American organizations for the establishment of the “American Alliance for Syria” on Friday in Washington DC.
The meetings included the approval of a bylaw for the establishment of an administrative-organizational body that brings together nine Syrian-American organizations under the name “American Alliance for Syria.”
The meeting brought together the SOC’s representative in the United States, Qutaiba Idilbi, representative the Syrian American Council Zaki Lababidi, representative of the Keila List Group for Political Action Tariq Abu Ghazaleh, representative of the Religious Initiative for Syria Zaher Sahloul, representative of the Free Syria Group for Political Action Mahmoud Barazi, representatives of the Syrian Christians for Peace organization Mirna Barq and Ayman Abd Al-Nour, representative of Citizens for a Safe and Secure America Bakr Ghbeis, representative of the Syrian Forum Yasser Tabbara, and representative of “With Justice” organization Wael Al-Sawah.
Participants in the meetings discussed and then approved the bylaws of the new alliance. The alliance aims to expand its umbrella in the future to include other Syrian-American organizations, provided that a year has passed since the establishment of these organizations, during which they carried out significant activities. Other conditions include that the organization must have three members on their board of directors and share the alliance’s its orientations.
After the approval of the bylaws, the SOC’s representative discussed with representatives of the Syrian-American organizations the political strategy of the new alliance. Participants in the discussions included researchers, experts and specialists in the Syrian affairs, in addition to representatives of offices of the US Senate and the House of Representatives. An action plan was approved that aims to protect political gains under the policies of the current US administration, and to meet the needs of Syrians at home and abroad.
