The Syrian Opposition Coalition’s (SOC) Department of Foreign Relations held its periodic meeting in the presence of SOC’s Vice-president for foreign affairs and Coordinator of the Department’s Abdulahad Astepho. Participants talked via video links.
Members of the Department reviewed the latest on the ground and political developments in Syria as well as the results of the visit made by a joint delegation from the SOC and the Syrian Negotiations Commission to the United States.
Participants talked about the meeting that took place between the SOC’s representative in New York, Maryam Chalabi, and the US official in charge of Syrian affairs at the US mission to the United Nations.
The meeting stressed the importance of the full implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 2254 to reach a comprehensive political solution in Syria as well as the importance of maintaining the cross-border delivery of humanitarian aid as per UN Resolution 2585. Moreover, the meeting focused on the role of the international community in maintaining stability and ensuring a halt to military operations so as to avert any further escalation that might lead to new waves of violence, mass displacement and deepening of the humanitarian crisis.
Members of the Department also discussed the health conditions in the liberated areas, especially the results of communications with the parties involved in securing anti-Covid vaccines for the civilian population.
